Eggschange is the creation of Lisa Raspopovich
and Tom Carroll, a married couple who have only recently entered the world of
smallholding. Their early experiences in acquiring birds left something to be
desired in terms of how easy it was to find the breeds in which they were
interested. This, coupled with their interest in the Internet plus Lisa's
familiarity with online auctions (she's a big ebay
fan), led to the creation of Eggschange.
You can read more about what Eggschange is
here.
Lisa Raspopovich is a fan of animals, philosophers, and Hermes handbags (which
she wishes she owned). Lisa is the creator and benevolent "chief" of
Eggschange, and has the final say in matters of
content, policy, features, and is the final arbiter of taste. Her original desire
to acquire "2 or 3" chickens has resulted in a flock of 9 so far, and she expects
to be adding more as time goes on. Lisa has a diverse educational background
including molecular biology (which makes her a terror to the vet) and philosophy
of law, and is currently considering a return to the academic life in addition to
running Eggschange. You can reach Lisa at
lisa@eggschange.co.uk.
Tom Carroll is a computer professional and provides the technical expertise
to make the Eggschange web site run. Tom's other job
is as a senior IT technical architect and generalist at investment bank UBS Warburg in London,
which Tom tries to keep from interfering with his work on
Eggschange. When he's not
behind a keyboard, Tom aspires to become a skilled woodworker, hoping to make
something more substantial than wood chips, sawdust, and nest boxes. Tom repeatedly finds
himself amazed at how entertaining owning chickens has turned out to
be. And though he's fond of his own surname, Tom insisted that there was no way that
Lisa could drop a whopper like "Raspopovich" when they got married. You can reach
Tom at tom@eggschange.co.uk.
Hoover is vice-president in charge of naps and inertia. A refugee from the
cat rescue, Hoover has been Lisa and Tom's companion for some 11 years, and provides the
house its soul. While Hoover generally approves of
Eggschange, he is continually puzzled as to why
there isn't a category called "Mice". Hoover refuses to answer email and doesn't
like computers, although he is fond of crawling into the boxes in which they
come.
If you see them at a poultry show, please say hello and let them know what you think
about the site. They'd love to meet you.
